Chapter Highlights Chapter L's primary fund raiser was the Annual Watermelon Ride-In (Silver Eagle's Watermelon Festival) which was first started on July 22, 1989. Last one was held in August 2004. Chapter now holds a Picnic in the Park which started August 2005 thru August 2006, then moved to May in 2007 and continues still today. The Annual Blessing of the Bikes and Bikers originated in 1989 and was co-hosted by Chapter L, Chapter R (Charlotte), U (St. Johns), and D2 (Howell). May 1, 1993 was the 5th and last Blessing. The charities for Chapter L have been many. Primary were The Old Newsboys, Make a Wish Foundation, Campbell Soup Labels (started in 1987 by Gloria Kimball and Betty Elliott, Labels were turned over to the Beekman Center for the purchase of school equipment), Elle's Place, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, and , Children's Rainbow Connection of Michigan which is still supported. In 1994, the first Annual Ride for Chirs Willcutt was held with the donations going to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. For Public Relations, Chapter L participated in the Adopt-a-Highway Clean-up Program. Our two mile sections was on I-96 from Williamston Road Bridge west to the Rest Area. For Five consecutive years, we picked up trash and treasures from the roadside.
